The Fundación Dominicana de Infectología de la Florida (Dominican Foundation of Infectology of Florida) is a non-profit organization, based in both Florida and Dominican Republic, that works to improve the health of the children population of the above mentioned Caribbean nation with the prevention, control and healing of infectious diseases.
Each year, some 234,000 babies are born in Dominican Republic. Of those, more than 3,500 do not live long enough to see their second birthday, due to the fact that they die from preventable diseases such as polio, diphtheria, tetanus, hepatitis, meningitis and measles, among others.
It has been proven, however, that vaccination programs are the most effective and least expensive method to fight these diseases.
For this reason, since 1995 our organization performs vaccination and diagnostic duties at the Department of Infectious Diseases of the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital, in Santo Domingo, to prevent that more children die and suffer from these diseases.
The main drive in the creation and development of our foundation has been the support, dedication and service capacity of the medical, laboratory and nursing staff, which for more than two decades have been working at this health center regardless of working hours and labor conditions.
We are proud of having a staff with outstanding human qualities and a true sense of teamwork, where their main motivation and satisfaction has always been bringing the possibility of a better life to the poorest children of Dominican Republic. |
